Special Offer at Sumter Spring Fling

I have a limited number of copies of “Morning Flight,” my award-winning image taken at Myrtle Beach. I will give a copy to the first 10 people at the 2008 Sumter Spring Fling who request it. This blog is the only place I’ll be publicizing it so come and ask for your copy. I’d love for you to have it.

Southeastern Print Judging in North Carolina

I just returned from Southeastern Print Judging in North Carolina. My images, “Morning Flight” and “Oh Happy Day!” were accepted for display in the exhibit. This means they will automatically be accepted into the National Exhibit in June and will then be judged for the Traveling Loan Collection and the Showcase Book.

I’m pretty excited with it all…

“Our Little Piece of Heaven” now in Print!

The PPA Showcase book is finally here! If you get to see this book, look on page 28. The Smoak Family looks great!

Showcase book

I realized from looking at the index that “Our Little Piece of Heaven” is the only one from South Carolina selected for the 2008 Showcase Collection book. There are images from almost all the 50 states, and Korea, Mexico and New Zealand. What a great honor to have the only image selected from all the photographers in South Carolina.

I truly feel honored to know Joey, Chris, Chase and Andrew Smoak. They’re the ones who deserve all the credit. Thanks, Smoak Family!

2008 Top 10 Photographer

What a great experience at the 2008 convention of the Professional Photographers of South Carolina held in Myrtle Beach. I was selected as one of the top ten photographers in South Carolina.  I received 1st Place in the Scenic Category with an image titled “Morning Flight.” I made this photograph early one morning at Springmaid Beach Hotel in Myrtle Beach. Even cooler than the 1st Place Award was when I received the People’s Choice Award. The members at the convention vote for their favorite image from the print salon. What an honor to have my image chosen as the favorite of all the other professionals from South Carolina!

I also received a Distinguished Award for a photograph from the wedding of Megan Mincey and John Abbott that I titled “Oh Happy Day!” You may even notice that this is the main image in the banner on my website. They are such a great couple. I loved photographing their wedding and am thrilled to be able to use such a great image on my website.

I’m being published!

I learned recently that one of my images from the Professional Photographers of America International Print Competition is being published soon. The book is the Showcase Collection Book. The judges select images that illustrate exemplary impact, creativity and storytelling. The image is of the Joey Smoak family from Pinewood, SC. The title is “Our Little Piece of Heaven.”

The judges selected two additional images for the 2008 Exhibition in Tampa, Florida. They are titled “Risen Son,” an image I made at Pretty Place Chapel at Camp Greenville and “Waiting Out the Storm,” an image made of a tall ship in Bar Harbor, Maine.

I’m pretty excited about the results and look forward to next year’s competition.
